2014 Indian general election in Assam

The 2014 Indian general election in Assam involved 14 Lok Sabha seats. Voting happened in three phases on 7, 12 and 24 April 2014. About 18.7 million people were eligible to vote, and turnout was around 80 percent, one of the highest in the country, despite security threats from insurgent groups.

The main parties were the BJP, the Indian National Congress (INC), AIUDF and Asom Gana Parishad. In Assam, the results were: BJP won 7 seats (36.5% of the votes), INC won 3 seats (29.6%), and AIUDF won 3 seats (14.8%). In the previous election, BJP had 5 seats, INC had 7, and AIUDF had 1. The seat changes were BJP +2, INC -4, AIUDF +2.

The results were announced on 16 May 2014. Before the election the Prime Minister was Manmohan Singh of the Congress; after the election Narendra Modi of the BJP became Prime Minister.
