Alberto José Rodríguez-Saá (born August 21, 1949) is an Argentine lawyer and politician from San Luis. He served as Governor of San Luis Province in two periods: 2003–2011 and 2015–2023. He also ran for president in 2007 and 2011 as part of center-right Peronist groups.
Family and education: He comes from a prominent San Luis political family. His brother Adolfo Rodríguez Saá was governor of San Luis from 1983 to 2001 and briefly served as interim President of Argentina in 2001. Alberto studied law at the University of Buenos Aires, graduating in 1974, and later studied in Spain at the University of Salamanca. He married María Antonia Salino and they had three children; they later divorced. He is a member of the Justicialist Party, with other affiliations including Justice, Union and Freedom (2007–2011) and Federal Commitment (2011–2019).
Early political career: He worked as a legal advisor to the CGT in 1980. He served as National Senator for San Luis from 1983 to 1994, and again briefly in 2000–2001. He led the Justicialist caucus in the Senate from 1989 to 1993. He opposed certain national reforms and resigned from the Senate in 1994. He returned to politics in San Luis as head of the provincial cabinet in 2001.
Governor and campaigns: He was elected Governor of San Luis in 2003 and re-elected in 2007 with strong support. During his terms, he promoted social and environmental programs and supported measures to limit indefinite re-election. In 2007 he ran for president as part of the internal Peronist line and finished fourth nationwide, while winning in San Luis. In 2011 he sought the national nomination again with Federal Commitment but did not win the presidency; he carried his home province. He was named Global Ambassador for Peace in 2011 by the World Organization for Peace.
Achievements: Under his leadership, San Luis earned praise for governance, environmental work, and development projects, including efforts to create a local technology hub sometimes described as a “Silicon Valley” for the province. He received several international honors for his environmental and humanitarian efforts.
