Norton, Buckland and Stone: a quick guide

Norton, Buckland and Stone is a small rural civil parish in Kent, England, in the Swale district. It lies about 1 mile east of Teynham and 3 miles west of Faversham, just south of the M2 and along the historic A2 (Watling Street).

What you’ll find
- The main settlement sits along Lewson Street Road, with a largely thatched hamlet, The Plough pub, and the old World's End cottage. Norton Road runs through the area, where Norton Court (Grade II*), Norton Court Lodge (Grade II), Provender and other cottages are found. Provender is a large 16th-century house.
- The parish church is St Mary’s, a flint-built church dating from the 12th to 14th centuries. It’s Grade I listed and is in the Diocese of Canterbury, Ospringe deanery. The church features historic windows and keeps memorials from the past.
- Buckland area: historically linked to Odo, Earl of Kent, and once had its own St Nicholas church (ruined by 1798). Today you’ll see Buckland Cottages, Cricket Green, and Provender Lane with Old Rectory, Barbary Farmhouse, Coronation Cottages, Provender Court and Provender Farm. The lane is bordered by orchards and includes an old oast house.
- Stone (Stone-next-Faversham) near Ospringe has an Anglo-Saxon chapel that is a scheduled ancient monument. It was part of the Elverton manor lands and was known as the chapel of Our Lady of Eylwarton. The area relates to Faversham and its Roman cemetery at Durolevum.
- Local facilities: a village hall and a sports club with cricket and football on Provender Lane. A large, open space is a community focal point for residents.
- The Lime Works: a former water softening plant from the 1930s–1942, now a private home.
- Transport: the nearest motorway junction is at Faversham, and the nearest railway station is in Teynham (about 1.6 km away).
