Ban Mo district
Ban Mo is a district (amphoe) in the northwestern part of Saraburi province in central Thailand. It covers about 204 square kilometers and had about 39,500 people in 2000. The district borders Don Phut, Nong Don, Phra Phutthabat, and Sao Hai in Saraburi, and Tha Ruea in Ayutthaya.
The name Ban Mo means “home of the doctor.” It comes from a legend: when a road was built for pilgrims from Tha Ruea to Wat Phra Phutthabat, elephants carried the loads. When the elephants fell sick, they were treated at Wat Khok Ban Mo (later Wat Ban Mo), giving the district its name.
Ban Mo is divided into nine sub-districts (tambons). The district’s only railway station is Ban Mo Railway Station, located on the Northern Line between Tha Ruea (Ayutthaya) and Nong Don (Saraburi).
Agriculture is important here. Ban Mo is known for growing Melientha suavis on more than 1,000 rai (about 160 hectares). Taro is another key crop grown in the area.
