Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Mosque, often called the Shrine, is a Moorish-style building in downtown Springfield, Missouri on St. Louis Street. It was built in the early 1920s for about $600,000 and designed by Heckenlively & Mark (with John Olson). The building is owned by the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners and for many years hosted the Shrine Circus. It is a five-story structure with an auditorium that can seat more than 4,000 people. The name comes from Ibrahim ibn Adham, inspired by Leigh Hunt’s poem "Abou Ben Adhem." The Shrine Mosque was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
