Paragenidens is a single-species genus of sea catfishes, containing Paragenidens grandoculis (Steindachner, 1877). Its conservation status is Least Concern (IUCN 3.1). It was moved from the genus Potamarius into its own genus in 2019 after a study by Marceniuk and colleagues showed it was distinct. This fish is endemic to Brazil, known from the Paraíba do Sul and Doce Rivers and their mouths. It was not seen for more than 50 years until rediscovered during the 2019 study. Today it is known only from Lagoa Nova in Linhares, Espírito Santo, having disappeared from its previous locality, Juparanã Lagoon in the same town.
