Nicoll Halsey
Nicoll Halsey (March 8, 1782 – March 3, 1865) was an American politician from New York who served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives (1833–1835) as a Jacksonian.
He was born in Southampton, New York, and moved with his family in 1793 to the area now known as Lodi, New York. He settled near Trumansburg in Tompkins County in 1808 and worked in farming and milling.
Halsey held several local offices: supervisor of Ulysses in 1812, 1814, 1815, 1818, 1821, and 1826; sheriff of Tompkins County (1819–1821); and a member of the New York State Assembly (1816, 1824). He was appointed judge of the Tompkins County Court on February 11, 1834. After his time in Congress, he returned to milling.
He died while visiting Marshall, Michigan, on March 3, 1865, and was buried in Grove Cemetery, Trumansburg, New York.
