James F. Sullivan
James F. Sullivan (1857–1917) was a United States Navy sailor and a Medal of Honor recipient. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, he joined the Navy from that state. He served as a boatswain's mate aboard the training ship USS New Hampshire. On April 21, 1882, in Newport, Rhode Island, he and Chief Boatswain's Mate Jeremiah Troy jumped overboard and rescued Francis T. Price, a third-class boy, from drowning. For this act, Sullivan and Troy were awarded the Medal of Honor on October 18, 1884. Sullivan died in Lowell in 1917 and is buried at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Lowell, Massachusetts.
