James B. Thompson
James B. Thompson (1843–August 31, 1875) was an American Civil War soldier who earned the Medal of Honor for bravery at Gettysburg. On July 3, 1863, he captured the flag of the Confederate 15th Georgia Infantry during the Battle of Gettysburg while serving with Company G, 1st Pennsylvania Rifles. He received the Medal of Honor on December 1, 1864.
Thompson was born in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, and entered service in Perrysville, Pennsylvania. He later held the ranks of Captain and brevet Major, and served with the 1st Pennsylvania Rifles and the 190th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment. He died on August 31, 1875, and was buried in Port Royal, Pennsylvania.
