News From Indian Country was a privately owned newspaper published monthly in the United States. It was started in 1986 by journalist Paul DeMain (Ojibwe/Oneida) on the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation in Wisconsin. It was the oldest nationally distributed Native publication not owned by a tribal government and did national, cultural, and regional news, plus a pow-wow directory. It appeared in print and online, with subscribers in the United States, Canada, and 17 other countries.

Paul DeMain served as editor and head of Indian Country Communications Inc. (ICC), the company that published the paper. ICC’s offices are on the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation near Hayward, Wisconsin. Early on, advertising from the growing Indian gaming industry helped support the paper. For many years, Pat Calliotte was associate editor, and Kimberlie R. Acosta (Kimberlie Hall) joined in 1991 as associate editor and advertising director. Acosta is known for photographing Native musicians across Indian Country.

NFIC also launched IndianCountryTV in 2008, bringing interviews, news, and music videos to a wider audience. Through IndianCountryTV, programs such as RezStyle and the Native News Update were produced.

The newspaper is noted for breaking stories about controversial topics in Indian Country, including investigations related to the Pine Ridge murders of the 1970s and the case of Anna Mae Aquash, a prominent AIM member. In 2003, DeMain wrote editorials that questioned clemency for Leonard Peltier after sources reported he bragged about shooting FBI agents. Peltier sued DeMain for libel, and NFIC was involved in the legal case. The trial of Arlo Looking Cloud in 2004 brought more attention to the Aquash case, and other related cases followed, including trials and indictments of several people connected to the events at Pine Ridge.

News From Indian Country published its last issue in August 2019, after 33 years of coverage.
