Naxal (film)
Naxal is a 2015 Indian Bengali-language vigilante action thriller directed by Debaditya Bandyopadhyay. It stars Mithun Chakraborty and Dhritiman Chatterjee, with Gargi Roychowdhury and Shankar Chakraborty in supporting roles. The film is set during the Naxal period in West Bengal, a time when socialist ideas influenced many young people. Mithun Chakraborty plays a Naxalite.
The story begins in 1971, on May 21, when a group of Naxalites escapes. The most prominent member is Anirban Sen, and their leader is Sankar Da. Samar dies during the escape, and Anirban and Sankar Da go into hiding. In 2013, a fax arrives at the Kolkata Metro Railways headquarters announcing that Anirban will commit suicide under the last metro line. The city is shaken, and Anirban sends more faxes. Siddhartha Chowdhury, the CEO of a top Bengali news channel, uses the event to boost ratings. Shubhankar, a journalist, discovers that Sankar Da is alive in Kolkata under a new name—Siddhartha Chowdhury. Siddhartha plans to telecast Anirban’s suicide live to attract viewers, while Anirban knows a lot about him. The story builds to a confrontation at the Maidan metro station, where Anirban defeats Siddhartha and avenges his friends’ deaths, becoming a hero.
