Anne Brown (educator)
Anne Brown (1854–1940) was a teacher and school principal. Born in Toronto, she graduated from Vassar College in 1874. She taught at the Rock Island Arsenal, then moved to New York to teach at Miss Chapman’s school on 42nd Street. Brown later founded her own school on 56th Street, which grew and relocated to larger premises on Fifth Avenue to educate fashionable young ladies. She started another school in Park Hill, Yonkers, before retiring in 1906.
