George Herbert Swift Jr
George Herbert Swift Jr. (July 1, 1926 – September 23, 2014) was an American mathematician and computer scientist. He earned a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Oregon in 1951 and a PhD in mathematics from the University of Washington in 1954, studying irregular Borel measure under Edwin Hewitt. He was an instructor at Duke University in 1954, then joined IBM in 1956, where he worked for 32 years and helped develop the IBM 5100. He retired in 1988 to teach mathematics and computer science full-time.
