The Ministry of Justice of Paraguay was created in January 2014 after the Ministry of Justice and Labor, established in August 1948, was split into two ministries. It runs the National Penitentiary System and the Civil Registry of Persons, and acts as a link between the Executive and Judicial branches. Its goals are to provide legal security, safeguard human rights, reform the justice system, work with civil society and other public institutions, and improve justice services and shelters for the disadvantaged.
