Salt Creek is a small river in Illinois. It is about 18.5 miles (29.8 km) long and flows into the Little Wabash River near Edgewood, at the border of Effingham and Clay counties. It drains parts of Cumberland and Effingham counties and passes through Effingham, Teutopolis, and Watson.
Salt Creek is a tributary of the Little Wabash River. Water from Salt Creek flows to the Little Wabash, then to the Wabash River, the Ohio River, the Mississippi River, and finally the Gulf of Mexico.
The creek’s origin is near the confluence of First Salt Creek and Second Salt Creek north of Teutopolis (Teutopolis, Illinois). It joins the Little Wabash near Edgewood at an elevation of about 466 feet. Coordinates are roughly 39.1400°N, 88.4912°W at the source and 38.9753°N, 88.5451°W at the mouth. GNIS ID: 417895.
