Miami University Hamilton
Miami University Hamilton is a public satellite campus of Miami University in Hamilton, Ohio. It opened in 1968 and is one of the university’s regional campuses. Miami University began offering classes in Hamilton in 1946 to help local residents access higher education, which grew into five academic centers. A permanent Middletown campus opened in 1966 and Hamilton followed in 1968. Some centers later became part of Wright State University or the University of Cincinnati.
Today, Miami Hamilton is a small, undergraduate-focused campus. It has about 2,374 students (2023), with 45% male and 55% female. The campus includes five academic buildings, a gym, and a conservatory. The Robinson-Schwenn Building in downtown Hamilton serves as an arts and community center.
The College of Liberal Arts and Applied Science is housed entirely at Miami Hamilton and includes 12 departments. The campus offers 31 majors and 10 minors. There are over 53 student organizations, covering Arts & Humanities, politics, religion, geology, theatre, LGBTQ+ groups, and more. The Regionals Student Government (RSG) represents Hamilton students and works with administrators on decisions affecting students.
Athletics are led by the Miami Hamilton Harriers. They compete in the USCAA, with men’s teams in baseball, basketball, golf, and tennis, and women’s teams in basketball, cheerleading, softball, tennis, and volleyball. The Harriers’ baseball program has been especially successful, earning conference titles in recent years. The teams were originally called the Chiefs; in 1997 the nickname changed to Harriers, and Miami Middletown became ThunderHawks.
