Application Foundation Classes

Application Foundation Classes (AFC) were a Microsoft framework for building Java GUI applications. They came with the Microsoft SDK for Java and were built on top of AWT, making it easier to extend and customize UI components. AFC was marketed as cross-platform, but it ran best on Windows with the Microsoft JVM, and support on other platforms was unreliable. AFC, along with J/Direct and WFC, was part of Microsoft's effort to lead the Java community. When Java Foundation Classes (JFC) arrived, interest in AFC dropped and AFC was no longer maintained.
