Marja-Liisa Völlers
Marja-Liisa Völlers (born 28 September 1984 in Bückeburg) is a German teacher and politician with the Social Democratic Party (SPD). She has been a member of the Bundestag for Lower Saxony since 2017. After running in the 2017 federal election in the Nienburg II – Schaumburg district and losing to Maik Beermann, she entered the Bundestag when Carola Reimann resigned.
In parliament, Völlers serves on the Health Committee and the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment, where she is the SPD group’s rapporteur on digitization and inclusion. Since 2021 she has also sat on the Defence Committee. From 2021 to 2025, she was part of the Parliamentary Oversight Panel (PKGr), which oversees Germany’s intelligence services BND, BfV and MAD. Since 2022, she has been a member of the German delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, on the Defence and Security Committee. Within the SPD, she has been one of the two speakers of the Seeheim Circle since 2022 (alongside Dirk Wiese).
In the negotiations to form a Grand Coalition after the 2025 elections, Völlers was part of the SPD delegation in the working group on foreign affairs, defense, development cooperation and human rights, which was led by Johann Wadephul, Florian Hahn and Svenja Schulze. She studied at the University of Bielefeld. She was born in Bückeburg, West Germany (now Germany).
