Frankfort is a small city in Spink County, South Dakota. It sits in the Central Time Zone at about 1,296 feet above sea level. The city covers 0.79 square miles, all of it land. The ZIP code is 57440 and the area code is 605. The population was 134 in 2020, down from 149 in 2010 and 166 in 2000.
Frankfort was laid out in 1882. It may be named after Frankfurt, Germany, or after a pioneer named Frankfort I. Fisher. A post office has served the town since 1882.
Geography and people: Frankfort has no water area. In 2010, there were 61 households and 149 residents, mostly White with small numbers of Native American and other races. About half of households were married couples, and a sizable portion were individuals living alone. The median age was about 42 years.
