Marie Myriam, born Myriam Lopes Elmosnino on May 8, 1957, in Luluabourg, Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), is a French singer. She won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1977 for France with the song L'oiseau et l'enfant (The Bird and the Child), written by Jean Paul Cara and Joe Gracy, just before her 20th birthday; the song later reached number 42 in the UK charts. In 1981 she represented France at the Yamaha Music Festival with Sentimentale and finished ninth. In later years she has announced France’s votes at Eurovision and appeared at the contest’s 50th anniversary concert in Copenhagen in 2005, where she also contributed to the event as a presenter and performer; she wrote the introduction to the French edition of The Eurovision Song Contest – The Official History by John Kennedy O'Connor. She was married to music producer Michel Elmosnino from the late 1970s until his death on December 20, 2013; they had two children, Laureen (born 1982) and Rick (born 1990). Her discography includes eight studio albums, ten compilation albums, and 32 singles.
