2005–06 Chinese Basketball Association season
The 2005–06 CBA season was China’s 11th top basketball league season. It ran from November 20, 2005 to April 19, 2006. The Dongguan Leopards joined the league and were placed in the South Division. The league’s Chinese name was changed to the professional league (中国男子篮球职业联赛).
In the regular season, eight South Division teams played 42 games each, while seven North Division teams played 40 games each. The divisional championships from the previous season were abolished.
The All-Star Game took place on March 18, 2006 in Shanghai, with the South defeating the North 93–90. There were also All-Star games against the Korea Basketball League on January 22 in Korea (KBL won 96–86) and January 24 in Jiyuan, China (China won 104–85).
The foreign-player draft was held in Eugene, Oregon. Playoffs were expanded: the quarterfinals became best-of-five, and the finals became best-of-seven for the first time.
Guangdong Southern Tigers won the championship, defeating the Bayi Rockets 4–1 to claim their third straight title. Regular-season MVP was Mengke Bateer (the award was later vacated due to league punishment); Finals MVP was Yi Jianlian.
