Marian Salzman
Marian Salzman (born February 15, 1959) is an American advertising and public relations executive. She is Senior Vice President of Global Communications for Philip Morris International. She has previously been CEO of Havas PR North America and chaired the Global Collective, the group that runs Havas’ PR networks. She rejoined Euro RSCG (Havas) in August 2009 after serving there as executive vice president and chief strategic officer from 2001 to 2004. Salzman studied at Brown University.
Early in her career, she helped develop new research methods, working on projects for Levi Strauss in 1991 and creating Cyberdialogue in 1992 to use online chats for social research. In 1998 she spoke about “experience collections,” the idea that people value experiences over material goods. The New York Times quoted her in a piece about metrosexuals. In 2003 the UK Observer apologized for wrongly attributing the first use of that term to Salzman and credited Mark Simpson instead. In 2007 she discussed trends for The Economist, saying “sleep is the new sex” and that a weaker housing market would push consumers toward a simpler, “less is more” mindset. In 2015 she signed an open letter urging leaders to focus on women.
She moved to Lausanne, Switzerland for her job with Philip Morris. Salzman is married to Jim Diamond and formerly lived in Stamford, Connecticut.
