British Numismatic Trade Association
The British Numismatic Trade Association (BNTA) is a group formed by most of the UK's leading coin dealers. It started to help talk with HM Revenue & Customs about VAT on coins, but it has grown to fight forgery, theft and other crimes in the coin trade and to set high ethical standards. Members follow a strict code of ethics and get early warnings about counterfeit coins and stolen property.
The BNTA runs COINEX, the UK's biggest international coin and medal fair. It takes place in Mayfair, London, in late September or early October. The two-day show attracts up to 100 dealers from Britain and abroad, and the week around the event features auctions in London, with sales that can exceed £10 million.
The BNTA is a member of FENAP, the Federation of European Numismatic Associations.
