Malvarosa (film)
Malvarosa is a 1958 Filipino family melodrama directed by Dr. Gregorio Fernandez, based on a comic serial by Clodualdo del Mundo Sr. The story follows Rosa and her widowed mother Sinforosa as they struggle with poverty after the father’s death, dealing with the problems of Rosa’s brothers—Melanio, Alberto, Leonides, Vedasto, and Avelino—and with Sinforosa’s fiancé Candido.
The film stars Charito Solis, Vic Silayan, Leroy Salvador, Vic Diaz, Rey Ruiz, Eddie Rodriguez, Carlos Padilla Jr., and Rebecca Del Rio. It was produced by LVN Pictures and released on May 19, 1958, with a running time of 101 minutes in Filipino.
In 2019, ABS-CBN Film Restoration digitally scanned and restored Malvarosa in 4K. The restored version premiered on October 17, 2019 at the QCinema International Film Festival and was later streamed online on December 1, 2020.
