Maicasagi River
The Maicasagi River is in the Nord-du-Québec region of Quebec, Canada. It starts from Caminscanane Lake (elevation about 332 m) and flows for about 152 km to Maicasagi Lake (elevation about 262 m). Along the way it collects water from tributaries on the left, such as the Inconnue River, De la Trève River, Omo River and Monsan River, and from the right with the discharge of Lake Yapuouichi. It passes through several townships and is crossed by the R1018 road about 4.2 km from its mouth. The river is usually frozen from early November to mid-May, with safe ice from mid-November to mid-April.
Caminscanane Lake is the head lake of the Maicasagi River, about 11 km long and 2.25 km wide. It receives water from upstream lakes including Morain Lake and drains south into the Maicasagi River. The Maicasagi flows through three segments—the upper, middle, and lower parts—before reaching Maicasagi Lake. Maicasagi Lake then drains south through the Max Passage into Gull Lake, and the Waswanipi River carries the water to Matagami Lake, linking this river into a larger basin. The name Maicasagi is of Indigenous origin and was first noted on a map in 1955; it was officially adopted on December 5, 1968.
