A Maddux is a complete-game shutout of at least nine innings thrown with fewer than 100 pitches. The term was created by Jason Lukehart in 2012 and named after Greg Maddux. Greg Maddux has the most Madduxes in a career, with 13 dating from 1988, the first year with complete pitch-count data. Zane Smith is second with seven, and he shares the single-season record of three Madduxes with Maddux. Among active players, Max Fried leads with three. The most Madduxes in a single season occurred in 1988 (25), while the pandemic-shortened 2020 season had none. Roy Halladay threw the only extra-inning Maddux, needing 99 pitches to complete 10 innings on September 6, 2003.
