Jason Macdonald
Jason Macdonald (born 3 November 1980 in Lawrence, New Zealand) is a rugby union hooker who has played for Otago in the ITM Cup and in Super Rugby for the Highlanders and Crusaders. He made his Otago debut in 2002, becoming one of the province’s longest-serving players. In Super Rugby, Macdonald started with the Highlanders in 2006, scoring his first try that season and becoming the regular hooker in 2008 (starting 10 of 13 matches). Before the 2009 season he moved to the Crusaders, where he started 12 matches filling in for injured Corey Flynn and helped the team reach the semi-finals. In 2010 he returned to the Highlanders, mainly coming off the bench as Jason Rutledge took the starting hooker role. His season was cut short by an Achilles tendon injury suffered in club rugby, ending his 2010 campaign after 7 appearances. He missed the entire 2010 ITM Cup and was not named in the Highlanders squad for the 2011 Super Rugby season.
