Charles Busby (politician)
Charles Harold Busby (born July 24, 1963) is an American politician, engineer, and businessman from Mississippi. He was raised in Laurel and Pascagoula and earned an Associate of Science in pre-engineering from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in 1987 and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of South Alabama in 1991.
Busby worked as a project engineer for Brown & Root, Chevron, and Herzog-Hart. From 2001 to 2023 he was the president of Orion Engineering and also worked for Sirius Technical Services. He is active in the Pascagoula Rotary Club, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Jackson County Economic Development Foundation, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies, and the National Rifle Association.
In 2012, Busby was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives for the 111th district. He served as chair of the House Transportation Committee from 2016 to 2023 and was a member of several other committees, including Appropriations, Education, Energy, Gaming, Insurance, Interstate Cooperation, Marine Resources, and Ports, Harbors, and Airports.
On August 10, 2022, Busby announced his candidacy for Transportation Commissioner for the Southern District. He won the 2023 election and took office on January 4, 2024, succeeding Tom King. He had served in the Mississippi House from January 5, 2012, to January 4, 2024, and was succeeded there by Jimmy Fondren.
Busby is married to Felicia Hillman and lives in Pascagoula.
