MV Northumberland (1955)

MV Northumberland was a refrigerated cargo liner built in 1955 by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland, for the New Zealand Shipping Company. It carried perishable goods across the seas and measured about 470 feet long, with a beam of 64 feet 9 inches and a draught of 28 feet 9 inches. The ship had a load capacity around 10,606 tons and was powered by two Sulzer engines delivering 9,000 bhp for a speed of about 16 knots.

Over its life the ship changed hands several times. It was sold to P&O, then to a Panamanian company as Kavo Astrapi, and finally to Guan Guan Shipping in Singapore, where it sailed as Golden City. MV Northumberland was scrapped in Hong Kong in 1978 by Leung Yau Shipbreaking Co Ltd.
