Robert “Rob” Bentele is a South African reality TV personality, videographer, and politician. He was born in KwaZulu-Natal and grew up in Richards Bay, with a Zulu mother and an Austrian father. Before Survivor, he worked as an events videographer and creative professional, and he trained in mixed martial arts and meditation to boost endurance and mental focus.

Bentele became well known for winning Survivor South Africa: Island of Secrets in 2019, the seventh season of the show. After 39 days of competition, he won the title of Sole Survivor and R1 million. He reached the final Tribal Council with Nicole Capper and Durão Mariano and won the jury vote. He played a central role in the Amigos alliance, which helped shape the season’s strategy. He also won the fan-favorite award that season, making him one of the few contestants to win both titles in a single season. After his victory, he represented South Africa in international Survivor programming.

In addition to Survivor SA, he later competed on Survivor: Australia v The World. In 2026, he entered local politics as a ward councillor candidate in the uMhlathuze Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal with the Democratic Alliance, drawing media attention for moving from reality TV to public service. In 2021, he developed a free anti-gender-violence app, which was endorsed by Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
