Loughton tube station
Loughton is a London Underground station on the Central line, serving the town of Loughton in Essex. It’s in fare zone 6 and lies above ground between Buckhurst Hill to the west and Debden to the east. The station has four platform faces on three tracks, with the middle track usually used by trains that terminate here. Some peak-time services start or end at Loughton.
The current station building opened on 18 April 1966 and is a Grade II listed structure. It was designed by John Murray Easton for the London and North Eastern Railway, on behalf of London Transport, and is noted for its distinctive, above-ground design with a tall ticket hall and glass arches.
Historically, Loughton has had earlier stations dating back to 1856, with subsequent redevelopments. The present building replaces those older structures and remains an important architectural landmark.
Bus connections at Loughton include London Buses routes 20, 167, 397, W14 and school route 677.
