NGC 37 is a lenticular galaxy in the Phoenix constellation. It spans about 42 kiloparsecs (roughly 137,000 light-years) in diameter and is about 12.9 billion years old. It may have a nearby companion galaxy, PGC 95382, since their redshift and radial velocity are very similar, placing them close together in space.

NGC 37 sits in a compact galaxy group called SCG2 0009-5713. Other members of this group include PGC 128413 (a spiral galaxy), PGC 128414 (a lenticular galaxy similar to NGC 37), and PGC 95382. The group's redshift is around 0.031, corresponding to a distance of about 490 million light-years.

Observational data (J2000): NGC 37 is located at right ascension 00h 11m 22.93s and declination −56° 57′ 26.4″. Its redshift is about z = 0.0326, giving a heliocentric radial velocity of roughly 9,775 km/s. Its apparent magnitude in the V band is about 14.66, and its apparent size is approximately 1.1 by 0.7 arcminutes.
