Railway stations in Venice

Venice has two main railway stations: Venezia Santa Lucia and Venezia Mestre.

Venezia Santa Lucia
- Located on the island of Venice, close to the Grand Canal.
- This is the main arrival point for travelers who want to be in central Venice.
- From here you can walk to many sights or take a vaporetto (water bus) around the city.

Venezia Mestre
- Located on the mainland, a major hub for trains to northern Italy and beyond.
- Trains to Mestre and then to Venice Santa Lucia run often; the trip between the two stations takes about 10–15 minutes.
- Use Mestre if you’re staying on the mainland or need easy connections to other cities or the airport.

Getting around
- There are frequent trains between the two stations.
- To reach central Venice from either station, take a vaporetto, bus, or a short walk from Santa Lucia.

In short: Santa Lucia is best for staying in the city center; Mestre is best for long-distance travel and easy connections.
