FC Amirani Ochamchire
FC Amirani Ochamchire was a Georgian football club from the town of Ochamchire in Abkhazia. The team existed until 2017 and played their home games at the Central Stadium in Ochamchire, a venue that held about 2,000 spectators (used until 1993).
During the Soviet era, Amirani competed in Georgia’s championship. In the early 1990s they played in the first three seasons of Georgia’s top league, but had to suspend activities because of fighting in the region. The club later took part in lower divisions and spent many years in the republican championship, which was the fourth tier. Their best finish came in 1989 when they finished 3rd in the republican championship.
After Georgia became independent from the Soviet system in 1990, Amirani joined the new Georgian league alongside other Abkhaz clubs Mziuri and Tskhumi, and qualified for the inaugural Umaglesi Liga season. They began with five straight losses, and in the following seasons they fought to avoid relegation. In the 1991–92 cup, Amirani defeated two rivals and reached the quarterfinals, where they lost in extra time to Tskhumi. The Abkhaz War soon meant the team had to withdraw from the tournament. In the three-year span, Amirani played 91 league matches and won 27, including two five-goal victories.
The club later restarted its activities in Tbilisi. In the mid-2010s they made three final-season appearances in the third division. Notably, Vitaly Daraselia, who won the 1980–81 European Cup Winners' Cup with Dinamo Tbilisi, began his career at Amirani in 1973 at the age of 15 before moving to Dinamo Tbilisi two years later.
