Baranagar, also spelled Baronagar or Barnagar, is a village in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal, India. It is part of the Murshidabad-Jiaganj community development block in the Lalbag subdivision, near the Ganges River. The area is mostly rural and lies close to the border with Bangladesh.

According to the 2011 census, Baranagar has a population of 1,721 people (913 males and 808 females), with 202 children aged 0–6. There are 1,212 literate residents, giving a literacy rate of about 80% for people over 6 years old.

Baranagar is noted for several temples studied by historian David J. McCutchion. The Bhavaniswar Mandir and the Char Bangla group of four Shiva temples are listed as monuments by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The village is linked to the famous 18th-century philanthropist Rani Bhabani, who is said to have wanted to build 108 temples here on the Ganges shore, but stopped at 107. Nearby, Poradanga railway halt on the Barharwa–Azimganj–Katwa loop serves the area, and boat services run between Ajimganj and Baranagar.

Overall, Baranagar sits in a region rich with history and river scenery, close to Murshidabad’s historic sites.
