Linlithgow Lightning
Linlithgow Lightning were a British speedway team from Linlithgow, Scotland. They raced at Heathersfield Stadium on Myrehead Farm, Whitecross. Plans for speedway in Linlithgow began in 1988 when Edinburgh Monarchs manager Alan Robertson said a circuit would be built for young riders to train there. The track opened as a training facility and became the home of Linlithgow Lightning in 1994, joining the British League Division Three. Their first match was on 26 June 1994. In 1995 they took part in the Academy League but faced financial problems. In 1996, under managers Barry Campbell, Blair Scott and Peter Scully, they won the Speedway Conference League and the Conference League Knockout Cup. In 1997, most of that winning team moved up to the Premier League, and Linlithgow competed in the Conference League as Lathallan Lightning. Alan Robertson did not enter a side in 1998, but John Campbell joined for 1999 and the team played one more season. In September 1999 the landowner announced plans to sell the site, so the team had to move. The club folded and the venue closed in October 1999.
