Mikhail Kublanov
Mikhail Moiseyevich Kublanov (May 3, 1914 – October 1998) was a Soviet scholar and historian of religion. He wrote about 100 works on the history of religion and archaeology. Born in Sebezh, then part of the Russian Empire, he graduated from the history department of Leningrad University. After the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, Kublanov supported the historicity of Jesus, in contrast to some myth-theory proponents like Sergey Kovalev. He also regarded the Testimonium Flavianum as authentic, arguing that the passage, as cited in Agapius' chronicle, does not conflict with Josephus Flavius’s political or religious affiliations. In 1994 he emigrated to the United States and settled in Philadelphia. His works were also published in Hungary and Poland.
