Kabilan Vairamuthu
Kabilan Vairamuthu (born 29 May 1982) is an Indian Tamil writer and social activist from Chennai. He studied engineering and then pursued a Master’s in Communication for Social Change at the University of Queensland, Australia. He spent over three years as an executive producer in Tamil television and is now a full‑time writer for the Tamil film industry. He is the son of famous Tamil poet and lyricist Vairamuthu and Ponmani Vairamuthu; his brother is Madhan Karky.
Kabilan married Dr. Ramya in 2010, and they have a daughter named Mettoori (born in 2012). He published his first book at 18 and has since written five poetry collections, two short‑story collections, and five novels. He received the Young Achiever Award from the office of former president APJ Abdul Kalam and the Paavai Institution’s Tamil Ilakkiya Chemmal award for science fiction. He represented Tamil Nadu at Sahitya Akademi’s 2014 Northeastern and Southern Poetry Forum in Kochi.
In college, he founded Makkal Anukka Peravai to address youth social and political issues and to encourage development politics. He helped launch Tamil channels Puthiya Thalaimurai (24‑hour news) and Puthuyugam, and produced shows including Puthiya Thalaimurai and Puthu Yugam.
