Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion
The Royal Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion (Arbeids- og inkluderingsdepartementet) is a Norwegian government department created in 1846. It handles the labor market, working conditions, pensions, welfare and social security, as well as integration, immigration and asylum.
Headquarters: Regjeringskvartalet, Akersgata 64, Oslo.
Minister: Tonje Brenna (Labour Party) since 2023. Secretary General: Eli Telhaug.
A short history: it began as the Ministry of the Interior in 1846. In 1916 it took on a stronger social affairs focus. Labour issues were moved to the Ministry of Local Government from 1948 to 1989 and again from 1993 to 1997. In 2002 the responsibilities returned to social affairs, and in 2006 “inclusion” was added to the department’s title.
