Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania
Ligonier Township is a rural area in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. It surrounds Ligonier Borough but is a separate municipality.

- Population: 6,058 in 2020 (about 6,025 in 2021 estimate)
- Area: about 92 square miles, mostly land
Communities and borders
- The township includes several communities: Buttermilk Falls, Darlington, Hillsview, Laughlintown, Longbridge, McCance, Oak Grove, Shirley, Speedwell, Rector, Waterford, and Wilpen.
- It also contains the boroughs of Ligonier and Laurel Mountain.
- It borders six townships: Fairfield (northeast), Jenner and Lincoln (Somerset County, southeast), Cook (southwest), Unity (northwest), and Derry (northwest).
Government
- Ligonier Township is a second-class township governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors, elected for six-year terms.
Public safety and services
- In 2019, the township and Ligonier Borough combined police forces to form the Ligonier Valley Police Department (LVPD). The LVPD has a Chief, a Sergeant, 11 patrol officers, a K-9, and two school resource officers, and patrols the Ligonier Valley, including Waterford, Darlington, Wilpen, Laughlintown, Ligonier, and Laurel Mountain Borough.
- A K-9 officer, Lt. Eric Eslary, died in a 2015 accident; the K-9 Blek died in 2018.
- Water and sewer services are provided by the Ligonier Township Municipal Authority.
- Fire protection is from three volunteer departments: Waterford, Wilpen, and Darlington.
