Qmusic (Netherlands)
Qmusic is a Dutch commercial radio station owned by Belgian media company DPG Media. It broadcasts CHR/Hot AC music from the 1980s to today and has been on the air since August 31, 2005.
History and growth
- It started after DPG Media bought Noordzee FM for one euro to meet Dutch broadcasting rules. The new format quickly gained listeners and won Marconi Awards for best radio station in 2008 and 2015.
- The studio originally was in Hilversum and moved to Amsterdam in September 2009.
- Since 2010 the station has leaned on new radio talent through Qcollege (Netherlands) which began in 2011; the Belgian-origin Qacademy started in 2008.
Programming and hosts
- The morning show has featured Mattie & Marieke since September 2018.
- The afternoon show has been hosted by Domien Verschuuren since 2019.
Contests, events and digital presence
- Het Geluid (The Sound) is a popular guessing game where listeners try to identify how a sound was created to win money.
- The Voice of Q is a talent competition run by the station, and since 2018 Qmusic has hosted the annual Top 40 Awards with live performances.
- In 2020 Qmusic became the Dutch affiliate for Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance with Worldwide Club 20. In 2021 it added Afrojack’s Jacked Radio and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano’s Smash the House Radio to weekend programming, with some changes moving back to Radio 538 in 2022.
- The station also runs digital theme stations and provides hourly news from ANP.
