Hillsdale is a small, rural community in Macon County, Tennessee, not a town with its own government. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Hillsdale was busy with farming and had schools, a post office, and several shops. Starting in the late 1950s, farming became less profitable compared with factories and services, so fewer people lived there and many shops closed, including the post office. Many residents moved to larger towns and cities.

Hillsdale sits between Hartsville to the south and Lafayette to the north. The Masonic Lodge on Hillsdale Circle is still active in the community. Tennessee State Highway 10 is the main road through Hillsdale, along with Hillsdale Circle, Taylor Branch Lane, Dry Branch Road, Pumpkin Branch Road, and Rock Crusher Road.
