Joy Berquist
Joy Berquist (Joy Theodore John Berquist), known as "Teddie" Berquist and professionally as J. T. Berquist, was an American football player, lawyer, and judge. He was born on July 30, 1901, in Loomis, Nebraska, and grew up on a farm in Westmark Township. He attended Holdrege High School and played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1921 to 1923. He was 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 235 pounds.
Berquist played in the National Football League for the Kansas City Blues in 1924, the Kansas City Cowboys in 1926, and the Chicago Cardinals in 1927. He appeared in 20 NFL games, starting 18, and was named a second-team All-Pro end in 1926. He was noted for his ability to open holes for his team's backs.
In 1925, he married Louise Lesh. While still playing football, Berquist began a career as a lawyer in Lexington, Nebraska, and later served as a judge in Dawson County. He died of a heart attack on May 18, 1942, at the age of 40.
