Lego Atlantis
Lego Atlantis was LEGO’s underwater adventure theme. It ran from 2010 to 2011 and had 24 different sets.
The story follows an underwater salvage crew called the Atlantis Crew as they explore the ocean to find the lost city of Atlantis. The good team includes Captain Ace Speedman, Dr. Jeff Fisher, Lance Spears, Axel Storm, Bobby Buoy, and Professor Samantha Rhodes (who isn’t always part of the crew but helps them). The evil side, Atlantis Warriors, has three members: the Squid Warrior, the Manta Warrior, and the Shark Warrior. The Portal Emperor rules the gateway to Atlantis.
The largest set was Portal of Atlantis (set 8078) with 1007 pieces. It builds a portal to Atlantis and comes with six minifigures: three divers, a shark warrior, a squid warrior, and the Portal Emperor. Other sets include Seabed Scavenger (8059), Typhoon Turbo Sub (8060), Gateway of the Squid (8061), Atlantis Exploration HQ (8077), Shadow Snapper (8079), and Temple of Atlantis (7985).
Besides bricks, LEGO released other Atlantis-themed items like a water gun, harpoon blaster, trident, shield, magnets, and keyrings. There was also a two-to-four-player board game called Atlantis Treasure (2010).
In 2010, LEGO ran a Summer Camp attraction called Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, featuring a life-sized L.A.N.S.E. (Lego Atlantis Navigational SCUBA Explorer) figure and the Atlantis Kids Adventures club for kids.
In 2011, Legoland Windsor opened an Atlantis-based ride called Atlantis Submarine Voyage. It later reopened in 2019 as Lego City Deep Sea Adventure.
Several books and media accompanied the theme. The books included Lego Atlantis: The Quest for the Lost City and Lego Atlantis: The Menace from the Deep Activity Book (both 2010), plus Lego Atlantis Brickmaster. There was also a 22-minute Lego Atlantis Movie about treasure hunters seeking Atlantis, released online in January 2010.
Lego Atlantis is now discontinued, but it remains a popular underwater adventure theme from LEGO’s history.
