South School (Stoneham, Massachusetts)
South School is a historic two-story wooden school building at 9–11 Gerry Street in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Built around 1857–58, it is the best-preserved 19th-century schoolhouse in Stoneham. The building originally housed two classrooms on each floor (four classrooms total), at a time when many local schools were single-story with only one or two rooms. It continued as a school into the early 20th century before being repurposed, and it still shows its Italianate exterior design. The South School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Today it houses community social services agencies.
