Sharon Riis

Sharon Riis (1947 – May 20, 2016) was a Canadian novelist, short‑story writer and screenwriter. She was born in Longview, Alberta, and worked on novels, short stories and TV scripts from the 1970s to 2016.

Her debut novel, The True Story of Ida Johnson (1976), was nominated for the Books in Canada First Novel Award. Her second novel, Midnight Twilight Tourist Zone, appeared in 1989.

Riis published short stories in Canadian magazines. She won the Genie Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Savage Messiah. She was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay for Latitude 55° (cowritten with John Juliani) and for Loyalties (cowritten with Anne Wheeler).

She contributed to television as a writer and story editor for Bliss and Wapos Bay: The Series, and wrote the TV films Change of Heart and The Wake.

Riis died on May 20, 2016, aged about 68 or 69.
