Laurel Nannup
Laurel Nannup is a Noongar artist born in 1943 in Carrolup, Western Australia. She is part of the Stolen Generation and grew up in the bush around Pinjarra until she was taken at age eight to the Wandering Mission, where she lived until she was sixteen. In 2012 she shared her story in the Art on the Move exhibition "A Story to Tell," which also produced a book of the same name. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts in 2000 and completed postgraduate studies at Curtin University in 2001. Laurel is a printmaker who works with woodcut and etching. Her art is in major collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the Queensland Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Berndt Museum of Anthropology, and the Museum of Contemporary Aboriginal Art in the Netherlands.
