Arkadi Suvorov
Arkadi Alexandrovich Suvorov (4 (15) August 1784 – 25 April 1811) was a Russian general and the son of the famous Alexander Suvorov. He rose to lieutenant general and led the 9th Infantry Division in Ukraine from 1807.
He fought in several campaigns: the Italian and Swiss expedition of 1799–1800; the war with France in 1807; the war in Austria in 1809; and the war with Turkey from 1810 to 1811.
After his father’s death, Arkadi married Elena Aleksandrovna Naryshkina (1785–1855).
Arkadi is buried at the New Jerusalem Monastery. He had four children: two daughters, Mary and Barbara, and two sons, Alexander and Constantine.
He died while crossing the Ramnicul Sarat river on 13 April 1811. There is a story that he drowned saving his coachman, but this claim is not supported by his memoirs; some later sources, including Aleksey Yermolov’s memoirs and historian Christopher Duffy, mention it.
The Ramnicul Sarat river is near the site of the Battle of Rymnik, where his father won a major victory.
