La Costa
LaCosta Tucker, born December 12, 1951, in Seminole, Texas, is an American country singer and the sister of Tanya Tucker. Her father, Beau Tucker, was a construction worker who encouraged her talent. LaCosta won her first talent contest at age four and later performed in beauty pageants and with her sister in a band called the Country Westerners.
She studied at Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona, worked as a medical records technician, sang in clubs, and earned the title Miss Country Music in Phoenix. She married airline pilot Darrell Sorensen, who helped manage her career and fathered her two children.
To be closer to Tanya, LaCosta moved to Las Vegas. In 1974, with help from her father, she signed with Capitol Records and released music as LaCosta. Her hits included “I Wanta Get To You” (No. 25), “Get on My Love Train” (No. 3), and “He Took Me for a Ride” (No. 10). She released about 10 singles and five albums with Capitol.
In 1982 she switched to Elektra Records and charted “Love Take It Easy on Me” under the name LaCosta Tucker. In 1989 she toured with Tanya, and in the 1990s she served as president of Tanya’s fan club. LaCosta has two children and at one point sold gourmet candy on Tanya’s website.
Many of her recordings are out of print, but the 2000 collection Sisters: An Anthology includes some of her songs together with Tanya’s material.
