The LG G series was LG Electronics’ line of Android devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets. The "G" name started in 2012 as part of the LG Optimus flagship line. In July 2013, LG said it would drop the Optimus name for future flagships and keep G and Vu as the main brands. The first pure G phone, the LG G2, was revealed in August 2013. LG also released its first two smartwatches, the G Watch and the G Watch R, under the G series. From the LG Watch Urbane onward, LG stopped using the "G" branding on watches, so they were no longer part of the G series. In April 2020 LG announced it would discontinue the G branding and switch to distinct brand names for future flagships, starting with the LG Velvet, to better connect with consumers. Some watches still show G branding, like the G Watch R, while the newer Urbane does not. LG and Google announced the Android Wear-based G Watch in 2014, followed by the G Watch R later that year.
